Why Social Media is the Key to Success

Word of mouth is the most popular way to advertise a new book that you loved. People are more likely to buy a book if a friend or even their favorite author recommends it to them. While blogging accounts for a portion of the book traffic online, blog posts will not get into the hands of the public without sharing the information. Posting a review on a blog will help with SEO optimization, but to drive more attention to your posts and to the book you are trying to promote, you need to leverage social media.

It’s the only way to reach a mass audience in a short amount of time, which is why authors and publishers use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to market their books. You can connect with readers, bloggers, and industry professionals from around the world in a matter of seconds.

A lot of authors and readers belong to public and private groups on Facebook where they can share their love for a particular genre, author, or book. You can find them by searching for the genre or book. Recommendations also pop up in the sidebar when you click on authors who already have established groups, and from there, you can navigate through the selection.

But, before an author can start to push their book to their followers, they need to develop a rapport. It takes months, if not years, to build a strong foundation with readers. To properly engage with people, it’s important that you share something they find valuable.

Quotes are very popular on social media and help to engage readers. Sharing blog posts and book reviews from readers or other authors can also help. Authors who take the time to respond to comments personally, share a little insight into their life, and show off their personality tend to have higher rates of engagement. Whether you’re a blogger or author and have ten or ten thousand followers, it’s important to remember that there is a person behind the tweet, post, or website. Make the most of social media by taking the time to get to know your followers.
