How far would you go to protect your darkest secrets?
When teenager Sadie Winter jumps from the roof of her school, her death is ruled as suicide – a final devastating act from a troubled girl. But then the broken body of a young boy is discovered at the same school and it’s clear to Detective Kim Stone that these deaths are not tragic accidents.
As Kim and her team begin to unravel a dark web of secrets, one of the teachers could hold the key to the truth. Yet just as she is about to break her silence, she is found dead.
With more children’s lives at risk, Kim has to consider the unthinkable – whether a fellow pupil could be responsible for the murders. Investigating the psychology of children that kill brings the detective into contact with her former adversary, Dr Alex Thorne – the sociopath who has made it her life’s work to destroy Kim.
Desperate to catch the killer, Kim finds a link between the recent murders and an initiation prank that happened at the school decades earlier. But saving these innocent lives comes at a cost – and one of Kim’s own might pay the ultimate price.
My Review: 5/5
Well here it is! The latest installment of the DI Kim Stone series: Dying Truth by the AMAZING Angela Marsons! If you are a follower of my blog, you will know that Angela Marsons isn’t just one of my favorite authors, the Kim Stone books are one of my all-time favorite crime series! Every time she comes out with a new book, I go in thinking there is NO way this could be better than the last. At some point she’s going to ‘jump the shark’ right? I mean, c’mon, this is the EIGHTH book in the series!! Well folks, she’s done it again….this book is the best Kim Stone book to date.
This book starts out with a peculiar suicide of a young girl. Soon, Kim and her team are in knee deep investigating other deaths at an elite private school. When they discover mysterious clubs involving generations and generations of students and the initiations that occur with membership, the investigation takes a dark turn.
Kim’s team is at it again in full force. Bryant is back with his intuition always keeping Kim in check. Stacey is a mad woman behind the computer. And Kevin’s inner weaknesses and struggles are discovered. The chemistry with the team is the best in any book I’ve ever read. Everyone clicks. They aren’t just co-workers, they are family.
I can’t say anything else about the plot. As with all of her books, it’s best to go into it as blind as possible. I will, however, say this book was the most emotional of all her books. After I turned that last page I was left just my mouth hanging open, tears pouring down my face, and in awe processing what I just read.
If you haven’t read any of Angela Marsons’ books, I recommend starting from the beginning and working your way through each one until you reach this masterpiece. While it will be a time commitment, it will be completely worth it. Then, when you are finished, sit back and just relish in the pure genius that is Kim Stone.
