#Review Last Summer by Kerry Lonsdale @kerrylonsdale #lastsummer

From the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Everything series comes a new novel of love, lies, and deceit.

Lifestyle journalist Ella Skye remembers every celebrity she interviewed, every politician she charmed between the sheets, and every socialite who eyed her with envy. The chance meeting with her husband, Damien; their rapid free fall into love; and their low-key, intimate wedding are all locked in her memory. But what she can’t remember is the tragic car accident that ripped her unborn child from her. Ella can’t even recall being pregnant.

Hoping to find the memories of a lost pregnancy that’s left her husband devastated and their home empty, Ella begins delving into her past when she’s assigned an exclusive story about Nathan Donovan, a retired celebrity adventurer who seems to know more about her than she does him. To unravel the mystery of her selective memory loss, Ella follows Nathan from the snowcapped Sierra Nevada to the frozen slopes of southeast Alaska. There she discovers the people she trusts most aren’t the only ones keeping secrets from her—she’s hiding them from herself. Ella quickly learns that some truths are best left forgotten.

My Review:

What?!  That is the first word that comes to mind after finishing Last Summer by Kerry Lonsdale.  What in the WORLD did I just read?!?!  I am a fan of Ms. Lonsdale’s books and have been for years.  The Everything series is amazing.  While I was looking forward to Last Summer, never did I think that it would surpass the entire series.  But it did.

I literally read all 307 pages in one sitting, only having one small break to climb into bed.  It is amazing and brilliantly written.  Not only is it an incredible story, but it makes you think.  Bite your tongue……….should you?  Should you tell the truth to the person you love, even if it might hurt them?  Should you bite your tongue?  What would happen if the truth eventually comes out?  Can the two of you make it, or will you crumble knowing secrets were hidden?

This isn’t the first book the author has written about memory loss.  Her Everything series is also about it.  But, this takes memory loss to a new level.  What if you can erase your memories on purpose?  If you had the opportunity to forget about an event or a person, would you?  And if you found out you did, would you be able to move forward never knowing what happened during that part of your life, or would you be so intrigued that you just HAD to discover the memories you erased?  Like I said..the book made me think.

I’m not going to talk about the specific plot because I think the blurb says enough.  I went in completely blind and I think that is the best way this book needs to be read.

This book is phenomenal…absolutely brilliant.  Kerry Lonsdale is an amazingly talented writer.  She writes at a maturity level that is above others.  After Last Summer, she has climbed to the top of my ‘must read’ charts.

Last Summer is one of my top 5 reads of 2019, without a doubt!  On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, it’s definitely a 10!
