Book Description:

Spunky Cameron Gates is tasked with solving the murder of Cherry Pickens, a legendary star of pornographic films, whose body turns up in an abandoned freezer. The case has a personal connection to her lover, Joshua Thornton, because the freezer was located in his cousin’s basement. It doesn’t take long for their investigation to reveal that the risqué star’s roots were buried in their rural Ohio Valley community, something that Cherry had kept off her show business bio. She should have kept her hometown off her road map, too – because when this starlet came running home from the mob, it proved to be a fatal homecoming.

My Review: 4/5

This is my third Audiobook from Lauren Carr.  When I signed up for the tour, I originally agreed to listen to two of her books.  However, when I was finished I longed for more.  This is another great one from the author.

I love how all of her characters are connected somehow.  This one takes place before the other two I listed to (the Thorny Rose series) and it revolves around Joshua Thornton and his girlfriend Cameron Gates.

While cleaning out the house of Joshua’s recently deceased uncle (pack-rat uncle), an explosion goes off in the basement.  Soon, a body is discovered in a freezer, and Joshua and Cameron are called to investigate.  The story goes back in time as dark secrets come out in the small town.

This audiobook was also top notch.  There were a lot of characters to keep up with, and I think it would have been easier to do so if I was reading the book.  But, the storyline is intriguing and helped make my long commute to work much more bearable.

The narrator also did a great job.  As mentioned before, a great book can be at turnoff for me if I don’t connect with the narrator’s voice.  No complaints from me on this one; Mike Alger was superb.

If you are looking for audiobooks that are fast-paced and character driven, I highly recommend this one from Lauren Carr.
